It’s official: Amazon is expanding to Ireland

2 min read

Amazon.ie is set to launch on 31 January 2025, and Ireland-based business can now register their accounts to join as Selling Partners.

An exciting opportunity for customers and e-commerce businesses alike

Thanks to the five-year agreement between Amazon and local postage provider An Post, Irish customers can choose from over 100 million products – including many from businesses already based in Ireland – and enjoy even faster delivery and returns.

The 1,000+ Irish SMEs already on the platform sell over 5.5 million products. Plus, the new platform will provide those customers with a localised shopping experience, and they can enjoy competitive prices without additional customs charges.

This growth has been supported with a €20 billion investment from Amazon between 2020 and 2022, with the goal of helping European SMEs reach new customers across the EU and international export markets, and achieving more than €8 billion in export sales in 2022. Indeed, in 2023, they recorded over €170 million in export sales – and over half of those (more than €100 million) were in export sales outside the EU.

So it’s a great time for sellers based in Ireland, and for those elsewhere to look at expanding their businesses within the EU.

The top 5 benefits of the Amazon launch in Ireland

  1. Access to a rapidly expanding market: Projected to reach €4.6 billion in 2024 and €7.4 billion by 2029, Ireland’s e-commerce sector is growing at about 10% year-on-year, and the new platform will make it easier for local businesses to reach Irish customers.
  2. Localised shopping experience for customers made possible through a partnership with An Post and the establishment of Amazon’s first Fulfilment Centre in Dublin.
  3. Support for Irish sellers from Amazon’s powerful tools and services, such as Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA), which can help streamline operations and reduce costs.
  4. Reduced fulfilment costs for Irish sellers by using Amazon’s Pan-European FBA programme to store products closer to customers, reducing shipping times and Amazon FBA costs.
  5. Enhanced visibility and reach: By listing products on Amazon.ie, sellers can expand their customer base and increase sales within Ireland and also across Europe.
