The best VAT compliance software for a cross-border ecommerce seller is a platform that registers you, files in every country where you hold stock or cross a threshold, and keeps the evidence — not a checkout tax calculator, and not a UK accounting app. Comparing ten platforms in September 2026: Infiniti3 (AVASK) is the strongest fit if you need UK and EU VAT, OSS/IOSS, EPR and customs in one system with accountants who file. hellotax and Lovat publish the clearest prices. Avalara and Sovos fit enterprise ERP stacks. Quaderno and Kintsugi are self-serve tools built for digital products and US-first brands.
Five things to know before you read on
- There are three kinds of “VAT compliance software”. Only one of them files your German return. If you hold stock in more than one country, you almost certainly need that one.
- The UK is not optional — even for non-UK sellers. Register for UK VAT (a UK warehouse does it) and you are inside Making Tax Digital from your first return. Your platform must submit digitally to HMRC.
- The gap between platforms is what happens beyond VAT. Only a few also handle EPR (packaging, WEEE, batteries) and customs. The rest hand you a second and third provider.
- Only two of the ten publish full prices (hellotax, Lovat). Everyone else quotes per country and per service. Get the whole stack in one quote.
- Sellers are choosing for the second time. VAT Services on Amazon closed on 31 October 2024; Taxdoo ended VAT services on 30 April 2026. Continuity — records, portal access, open periods — is now part of the decision.

It is the 18th of the month. Your German return is due in two days. Amazon’s settlement report does not match your ledger, the Polish registration you applied for in March still has no number, and the email from your provider — the one you have been meaning to read — says they are “transitioning away from VAT services”. Somewhere in Seller Central, a listing has been flagged for a missing EPR number.
If that sounds familiar, this guide is for you: a seller with VAT obligations in more than one country, choosing the software — or the provider — to run them. New to the vocabulary? Start with what VAT compliance involves and come back.
Two things make 2026 different. Amazon closed VAT Services on Amazon on 31 October 2024 and pointed its sellers at third-party providers. Then, on 30 April 2026, Taxdoo — one of the best-known German ecommerce VAT platforms — stopped doing VAT altogether and referred its clients to Marosa. Add the EU’s VAT in the Digital Age rules from 2027 and mandatory UK e-invoicing from 2029, and the provider you picked in 2022 may not be the one you need now. Switching VAT provider has gone from rare to routine.
| How we compared. Ten platforms, twelve criteria (section 3), every claim taken from the vendor’s own website, pricing page or help centre; where a vendor publishes nothing, we say “not published” rather than guess. Checked on the date above, re-checked at every update. Infiniti3 is AVASK’s own platform, listed first and held to the same criteria as everyone else — if the right answer for you is not us, this guide should still get you there. |

ToggleOnly need to file UK VAT returns under Making Tax Digital?
If you are a UK business with one UK return a quarter, you do not need cross-border VAT compliance software — better to say so now than after 4,000 words. You need HMRC-recognised accounting or bridging software: Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, FreeAgent, or a bridging tool if your records live in a spreadsheet. HMRC keeps a searchable list of Making Tax Digital software and spells out the digital-links rules in VAT Notice 700/22. That is what “best VAT software” means in the UK, and it is a different question from this one.
One catch before you go. Put stock in a UK warehouse as a non-UK business and you become a non-established taxable person — no registration threshold, and Making Tax Digital from the very first return. Whoever files for you must submit digitally to HMRC. That is why “UK VAT filing under MTD” is the first column in our table, and why it matters as much in Ohio as in Manchester. Our guide to registering for UK VAT as a non-established seller covers the paperwork.
What “VAT compliance software” actually means: three categories — and two things that aren’t
VAT compliance software is software that registers a business for VAT where it has obligations, calculates and validates the tax on its sales, prepares and submits the returns — including OSS/IOSS, EC Sales Lists and Intrastat where they apply — and keeps the evidence a tax authority will ask for. Search the term, though, and you get a VAT-number validation API, a checkout tax calculator, a German bookkeeping app and a firm of accountants with a portal on one page. Decide which category you are buying before you compare a single feature.
| Category | What it does | Examples | Who prepares and signs the return |
|---|---|---|---|
| A · Tax calculation engines and APIs | Work out the right rate and tax at checkout or in your ERP; some bolt on a returns module | Avalara AvaTax, Vertex, Fonoa, Quaderno, Stripe Tax, Kintsugi, Sphere, Anrok | You, or your adviser. Registrations, fiscal representation, EPR and customs stay outside the tool |
| B · Self-serve filing SaaS | Pull marketplace data and pre-fill returns; you review and submit — or pay per report for auto-submission | Lovat (Lappa), Quaderno filing, Kintsugi Premium | You. The software helps; the liability and the letters are yours |
| C · Managed compliance with a platform | Accountants register, prepare and file; the platform pulls marketplace data, validates it, stores evidence and shows status in every market | Infiniti3 (AVASK), Marosa, hellotax, Taxually, Sovos managed, SimplyVAT | The provider. It submits, holds the audit trail and answers the tax office |
| Not VAT compliance software | Bookkeeping connectors (Link My Books, A2X, Synder), UK MTD accounting and bridging apps (Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, FreeAgent), merchant-of-record billing (Paddle, Cleverbridge) | — | None of these register you abroad, file OSS/IOSS or touch EPR or customs. Good tools, wrong shelf |
The difference between the three is not the feature list. It is who is liable when something is wrong.
In category A and most of B, that is you. In C it is the provider — which is why managed platforms cost more per country, and why, once you have stock in five countries and three marketplaces, they tend to be cheaper than the mistakes. The line blurs at the edges: AVASK runs the same platform as a self-serve tier and as a Premium tier with a dedicated tax advisor; Avalara sells its VAT software in-house or managed; Lovat sells auto-submission per report. So ask every vendor the same plain question: on filing day, who presses submit, and whose name is on it?
Two categories deserve a warning because they rank for this search. Bookkeeping connectors push marketplace settlements into Xero or QuickBooks — essential for clean books, irrelevant to a foreign registration; since 30 April 2026 Taxdoo lives here, as an accounting product for German-established companies. Merchant-of-record billing (Paddle, Cleverbridge) makes VAT go away by selling on your behalf — a real answer for digital products, no answer for pallets in a warehouse outside Warsaw.
How we compared the best VAT compliance software: 12 questions we put to every vendor
Every column in the table below is one of these. Steal them for your demo calls.
- Does it file UK VAT returns under Making Tax Digital? On HMRC’s list of recognised software, or at least submitting UK returns digitally for you? With UK stock, this is not negotiable.
- Which EU countries does it actually register and file in? Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Poland, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Austria, Sweden, Ireland. “Global coverage” means nothing until the list is published; our country VAT guides show what each registration involves.
- OSS and IOSS? Union and non-Union One Stop Shop returns for EU distance sales, and the Import One Stop Shop for consignments up to €150 — which, for a non-EU seller, means an EU intermediary. See OSS and IOSS registration and IOSS registration costs.
- Fiscal representation — where, and included or extra? Several member states make non-EU businesses appoint a jointly liable representative; vendors cover it everywhere, in four countries, or not at all. Our Italian fiscal representation guide shows what it looks like in practice.
- EPR? Packaging, WEEE and battery reporting in Germany (the LUCID register), France, Spain, Austria and beyond, with the EU packaging regulation live from 12 August 2026 — see the EPR compliance guide and AVASK’s EPR registration service.
- Customs, EORI, import VAT and postponed VAT accounting? Moving stock across a border needs an EORI number, declarations, and ideally import VAT settled on the return through postponed VAT accounting. Few VAT platforms offer customs clearance; most stop at the return.
- US sales tax? More UK and EU sellers than you would think have economic nexus in US states. Some vendors cover both sides, some one, some neither.
- Is it ready for e-invoicing? Mandates are spreading across the EU and the UK has confirmed mandatory e-invoicing from 2029. The platform needs a plan for how e-invoicing data reaches your VAT filings — AVASK’s e-invoicing compliance page explains ours.
- Which marketplaces and systems does it connect to — by API or by CSV? Amazon, Shopify, eBay, Etsy, WooCommerce; Xero, QuickBooks, your ERP. Manual uploads work until the month you forget one; a Shopify API connection does not forget.
- Who prepares the return, who submits it, and who answers the tax office? Pre-filling is not signing. Ask who receives the letters, who fixes last year’s errors, and who is awake when a return deadline falls in a country whose portal you cannot read.
- What evidence does it keep, and can you get it out? Filing receipts, proof of payment, source transactions, invoices, validation logs — kept for the six years HMRC requires, ten under OSS. What a platform stores decides how an HMRC compliance check goes.
- Will they tell you the price? Published list, published “from” price, or quote only. We record what each vendor showed on the date at the top of this article.

The 10 best VAT compliance software platforms in 2026, reviewed
Same template for everyone — what it is, what it covers, who files, what it costs, then a one-line verdict — including the names you will meet in every other comparison (Avalara, Sovos, hellotax, Taxually).
1. Infiniti3 (AVASK) — for sellers who want VAT, EPR and customs in one platform, with accountants who file
Disclosure first: Infiniti3 is AVASK’s platform, scored on the same twelve questions as everyone else.
What it is. The engine behind AVASK’s managed compliance. It connects Amazon, Shopify and other channels, pulls marketplace reports automatically, runs VAT and EPR calculation engines with a validation service, submits filings directly through a tax-authority submission engine — in the UK (via a direct API connection with HMRC), Germany, Spain, the Czech Republic, Poland and for IOSS, EC Sales Lists included — and keeps the evidence — filing receipts, proof of payment, captured invoices — behind a dashboard showing liabilities, periods and status in every market. On top sit AVASK’s 420+ specialists in 12 countries, who register you, prepare and file, and take the calls from the tax office.
What it covers. 50+ jurisdictions: the UK, every major EU marketplace country, the US, Japan, Australia, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. It is the only platform in this comparison that also runs EPR registration and reporting — France, Germany, Spain and expanding, Amazon’s Pay-on-Behalf programme included — and customs clearance between the UK and EU, with DDP shipping and Amazon’s C2S2 programme. AVASK acts as fiscal representative wherever it has local offices, primarily in the Netherlands, Ireland, Germany, France and Spain.
What is coming in Q4 2026. US sales tax — handled today as an AVASK managed service — moves into Infiniti3 by the end of Q4 2026, alongside e-invoicing and e-reporting across all 27 EU member states, GPSR, forward-looking analytics, and new calculators and validation tools.
Who is behind it. 18,000+ businesses run their compliance through AVASK — ICPA-certified, an ICAEW Authorised Training Employer, ISO 9001, offices from Southampton to Shenzhen. Read what sellers say in AVASK’s client case studies.
[REVIEW — insert one short client quote here (name, company, marketplace, countries) from /about-us/client-case-studies/.]
What it costs. Three tiers — Self-Serve, Premium, Enterprise — quoted on the countries and services you need; the plan finder tells you which fits before anyone calls you.
Verdict. Choose it if you hold stock in several UK or EU countries, have EPR and customs on your plate as well as VAT, and want one login and one team accountable for all of it. Skip it if you only need a checkout calculator for digital products, or card-sign-up SaaS with no human in the loop. The Infiniti3 compliance platform page shows the modules.
[IMAGE] Infiniti3 VAT dashboard — liabilities, periods and filing status across markets. Alt: “Infiniti3 VAT compliance software dashboard showing VAT liabilities and filing deadlines across UK and EU markets”.
2. Avalara — for enterprise and ERP-centred businesses that want US sales tax and VAT from one vendor
What it is. The biggest name in the category. For VAT it sells VAT Reporting — HMRC-recognised software for teams that prepare returns in house — and Managed VAT Reporting, where Avalara files for you, European Sales Listings and Intrastat included. Around it: AvaTax for calculation, a certified Peppol Access Point, IOSS intermediary and fiscal-representation services, and AvaTax Cross-Border for duty estimates and DDP at checkout.
Coverage and price. 48 countries on the software, 53 managed; the EU list is not itemised. Every return carries a full audit trail — inputs, validation logic, adjustments, approvals, the submitted file — and integrations run deep into SAP, Oracle, NetSuite and Dynamics as well as Amazon, Shopify, QuickBooks and Sage. Price: not published (Small Business, Standard or Premium, after a scoping call). EPR: not offered. Avalara also left the VAT Services on Amazon programme in 2024, which is how many marketplace sellers first met it.
Verdict. Choose it if your finance stack lives in an ERP and you want US sales tax, VAT and e-invoicing under one contract. Skip it if you want a price on the website, EPR from the same provider, or a service sized for a seller rather than a tax department.
3. Taxually — for marketplace sellers who want VAT and EPR from one software-led platform
What it is. A hybrid: CrossTax builds the return from your data (250+ validation rules), you approve, Taxually files. Its help centre lists coverage in 80 jurisdictions including 30 EU markets and the UK, where returns go through your Government Gateway authorisation. OSS and IOSS are covered, with an IOSS intermediary in France or Poland; fiscal representation is available; EcoTax adds EPR for Germany, France and Spain (registration from €150, reporting €150 to €1,800 a year).
The rest. Customs: not published. US sales tax (LumaTax): enterprise only. Native API feeds: Amazon (EU), Shopify, Stripe; CSV for everything else. VAT pricing: not public; OneTax charges €5 per tax payment. Verdict. Choose it if you sell on Amazon EU and Shopify and want VAT plus EPR in one software-first workflow. Skip it if you need customs handled, a published VAT price, or more than three native connectors.
4. Marosa — for multi-country businesses that want a managed service with e-invoicing built in
What it is. A Spain-headquartered compliance firm with its own portal, VATify, sold managed or as a SaaS licence. For ecommerce sellers it covers all 27 EU member states plus the UK, Norway and Switzerland — registrations, returns, OSS and IOSS, fiscal representation, EORI and EPR filings in Germany, France and Spain — with e-invoicing, Peppol and real-time reporting built in. The team prepares and submits, chases authorities until your numbers arrive, and keeps a full audit trail; named connectors are Amazon and Stripe plus an ERP API.
Price and 2026 context. Quote only, by number of countries. Taxdoo sent its VAT clients here when it exited, and Marosa announced in August that it has been acquired by Wolters Kluwer, team and platform continuing. Verdict. Choose it if you need many countries, e-invoicing readiness and a team that files. Skip it if you need deep marketplace integrations or a price list.
5. hellotax — the clearest published pricing for small and mid-sized Amazon and Shopify sellers in the EU
What it is. A managed service built around ecommerce: in-house accountants prepare and submit, every filing sits in a dashboard with deadline and threshold monitoring, and letters from tax offices get scanned in. Connectors: Amazon, eBay, Shopify, WooCommerce, Cdiscount, Magento. Countries: 12 — Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, the UK and Ireland.
The price, in public. €49 per country per month on New Seller (up to 500 transactions a year; DE, UK, CZ and FR only) or €119 on Established Seller (unlimited, account manager); five countries €470 a month; OSS filing €89 a month; registration or takeover €300 per country, waived on annual plans; local fees may apply. What it does not do: no IOSS; fiscal representation only in France, Italy, Poland and Spain; EPR, customs, US sales tax and MTD recognition not published.
Verdict. Choose it if you want a predictable per-country price for EU VAT with accountants behind it. Skip it if you need IOSS, EPR or customs — or you sell into Austria.
6. Sovos — for enterprises with heavy e-invoicing and continuous-transaction-control obligations
Coverage. VAT managed services in 70+ countries — registration, filing, reporting, Union and non-Union OSS, IOSS intermediary for non-EU sellers, local fiscal representation — with UK MTD filing, Peppol certification and 150+ tax experts who prepare, submit and support audits behind one consolidated dashboard. No marketplace connectors are named; pricing is custom and consulting-led.
Verdict. Choose it if you are an enterprise or marketplace operator with e-invoicing mandates in many countries. Skip it if you are an SMB seller who needs Amazon and Shopify feeds and a start date this month.
7. Lovat (Lappa) — the best self-serve SaaS if you have someone in house to press submit
Coverage. A UK-headquartered SaaS (Lovat Compliance Ltd, 3,000+ customers) that pre-fills returns from Amazon, eBay, Etsy, Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento, Stripe, PayPal, BigCommerce and NetSuite; covers OSS/IOSS, EC Sales Lists and Intrastat, US sales tax in 37 states and Peppol Access Point services; and adds an EPR module for 28 countries. You submit — auto-submission is a paid add-on per report, a consultation €150 an hour. It calls itself MTD-ready; HMRC recognition is not stated.
The price, in public. Lovat’s price list: €35, €65 or €450 a month on annual billing, scaled by integrations and volume, plus per-country add-ons and a 14-day trial with no card. Verdict. Choose it if you have a bookkeeper to review and submit and want the widest SaaS feature set at a SaaS price. Skip it if you want the provider to own the filing and the correspondence.
8. Fonoa — for digital platforms with an engineering team and API-first tax operations
Coverage. A tax engine plus HMRC-recognised returns software for large digital businesses: determination in 100+ jurisdictions, multi-country OSS returns, direct portal submission where supported, a certified Peppol Access Point — and the best audit lineage of the engines, from return box to source transaction. No marketplace connectors are named; fiscal representation and IOSS are not published; EPR is not offered; pricing is demo-only.
Verdict. Choose it if you run a marketplace or SaaS platform and will integrate by API. Skip it if you sell physical goods through Amazon and Shopify.
9. Quaderno — the low-cost SaaS for digital products and small catalogues
Coverage. Self-serve calculation, invoicing and reporting across 12,000+ jurisdictions; EU VAT, OSS and IOSS reports; Peppol and Verifactu for Shopify orders; registration and filing done for you on request. Connectors: Shopify, WooCommerce, Stripe, PayPal, GoCardless, Kajabi — not Amazon. Quaderno’s published plans: $29 (25 transactions) to $149 (2,500) a month, seven-day trial; filing quoted separately.
Verdict. Choose it if you sell digital goods or a small physical catalogue direct to consumers and want clean invoices and reports. Skip it if you hold stock abroad — there is no fiscal representation, EPR or customs, and no MTD claim.
10. Kintsugi — for US brands fixing sales tax first and adding Europe later
Coverage. A US-first, AI-led platform that auto-registers and auto-files in all 50 states, with 40+ integrations (Shopify, Amazon, Walmart, Stripe, QuickBooks, NetSuite, BigCommerce, Dynamics). EU and UK compliance — including Union OSS via Ireland — only on custom-priced Premium; the EU country list, IOSS, MTD status, fiscal representation and EPR are not published. US pricing is public: free tier, $75 per filing or registration; international custom.
Verdict. Choose it if you are a US brand with a nexus problem today and Europe on next year’s roadmap. Skip it if Europe is your main market now.
| Taxdoo is not on this list, and here is why. On 30 April 2026 Taxdoo discontinued its VAT services and referred VAT clients to Marosa; it now sells accounting software to German-established companies, with OSS and EC Sales data prepared for your adviser, not filed. Several 2026 “best of” lists still rank it as a filing provider — they are out of date. Former client? Our note on what Taxdoo’s exit means for sellers covers the takeover steps.SimplyVAT is part of AVASK. SimplyVAT (Brighton; EU, UK, Norway, Switzerland and beyond; OSS and IOSS; EPR in 14 countries; customs and EORI) joined AVASK in February 2026 and continues as its own brand. We have not scored it separately — that comparison would be an in-house one. |
Why sellers are re-choosing a VAT provider in 2026 — and what to check before you sign
The strange thing about this market right now is how many sellers are choosing for the second time. Four reasons.
- 31 October 2024 — VAT Services on Amazon closed. Amazon ended the programme, Avalara had already announced it was stopping its work through it, and tens of thousands of sellers had to pick a provider — many for the first time. What ex-programme sellers should do is still one of our most-read pages.
- 30 April 2026 — Taxdoo left VAT. Clients were referred to Marosa (see above).
- Consolidation. SimplyVAT joined AVASK in February 2026; Marosa announced its acquisition by Wolters Kluwer in August. Not bad news — but re-read your contract.
- The rules. ViDA from 2027, UK e-invoicing from 2029, EPR widening in Germany, France and Spain. A provider that only files VAT returns covers a shrinking share of what you owe.
None of the things that go wrong in a transfer appear on a pricing page. Ask about them anyway — including us.
- Who moves the records? Filing history, registration certificates, correspondence, evidence — exported by whom, in what format, by when?
- Do you keep the old portal? Read access, for how long? Amazon gave nine months.
- Which return straddles the switch date, and whose name is on it?
- Who fixes last year? Onboarding finds errors. Will the new provider correct earlier returns, and at what price?
- What does the takeover cost, and how long are you locked in? hellotax charges €300 per country unless you book annually; others bundle it. Get the minimum term and notice period in writing.
- Will your fiscal representative change without a gap? The old one must be released and the new one appointed in step.
- Who updates LUCID, SYDEREP and your EORI? Producer registrations and customs numbers do not move by themselves.
- Have you got six years of evidence out before the old contract ends? You — not the provider — will be asked for it in a compliance check.

Three seller scenarios: which category of software actually covers you
Features mean nothing until you line them up against what you owe. Find yourself in one of these three.
Scenario 1 — You are a US brand launching on Amazon.co.uk, then Pan-EU FBA
Anchor id: #scenario-1
The day your stock lands in a UK fulfilment centre you are a non-established taxable person: UK VAT registration with no threshold, a UK EORI number issued by HMRC, import VAT on every shipment — best settled by accounting for import VAT on the return — and Making Tax Digital from your first return. Switch on Pan-EU and you add registrations in Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Poland and the Czech Republic, OSS for cross-border B2C sales, fiscal representation where demanded, and EPR registration in Germany, France and Spain before Amazon suspends the listings. Register late anywhere and a penalty regime is waiting.
What covers it: category C. Seven countries, OSS, import VAT, EPR, customs — a tax engine or an MTD app will not get you there. AVASK’s EU expansion page for first-time sellers maps the order; if you are already in three markets and adding more, the multi-country scaling page picks up from there.

Scenario 2 — You are a UK Shopify brand selling to EU consumers after Brexit
Anchor id: #scenario-2
No EU stock means every order is an import. Consignments up to €150 can go through the Import One Stop Shop on one monthly return — with an EU intermediary, because you are a non-EU business. Above €150, duty and import VAT apply per parcel: your customer pays at the door, or you ship DDP. Through a marketplace, the deemed-supplier rule makes the marketplace liable for VAT on many of those sales — never on your own-site orders, and never for EPR: packaging shipped into Germany and France still needs LUCID and SYDEREP registration. Our UK–EU distance-selling guide has the thresholds.
What covers it: category B or C, by volume. Self-serve SaaS with IOSS support works at low volume if someone in house owns the return. Add an EU warehouse for faster delivery — most brands do — and you are back in scenario 1.
Scenario 3 — You are an EU seller entering the UK
Anchor id: #scenario-3
Selling from the EU into the UK without UK stock, consignments of £135 or less carry UK VAT at the point of sale under HMRC’s overseas-goods rules: through a marketplace, the marketplace accounts for it; from your own site, you do. Move stock into a UK warehouse and you are the US brand from scenario 1 — no threshold, MTD from day one, an EORI for the inbound pallets.
What covers it: category C for anyone with UK stock; UK-recognised filing is the column you cannot compromise on. AVASK’s EU and UK expansion page covers both directions.

Evidence and audit-readiness: the question nobody asks until the letter arrives
Most comparisons stop at “files your returns”. Tax authorities do not. When HMRC opens a VAT compliance check, or a German or Spanish office queries an OSS return, they want what sits behind the return: source transactions for each box, invoices in and out, proof of export for zero-rated dispatches, the reconciliation between marketplace reports and what was declared, EC Sales Lists and Intrastat where they applied, and proof the tax was paid. UK rules say keep VAT records for at least six years — ten with OSS — and the points-and-interest penalty regime compounds fast; our 2026 VAT penalties guide shows what a £10,000 bill paid 40 days late really costs.
Three questions for any platform. What does it keep? Receipts, proof of payment, captured invoices and validation logs should live in the platform, not your inbox. Can you get it out? You will need an export the day you switch provider and the day an inspector writes. Who answers? On a managed platform, the provider fields the letter; on a self-serve tool, you do — and a letter from an Italian tax office is not something to learn on the day. This is where the engines (Avalara, Fonoa) and the managed platforms (Infiniti3, Marosa, Sovos) pull ahead, and where bookkeeping connectors and MTD apps cannot help you at all.
Pricing: what VAT compliance software really costs in 2026 (and what “from €49” leaves out)
Four pricing models, hard to compare because they charge for different things.
- Per country per month, managed. hellotax: €49 or €119 per country, €470 for five, OSS €89, plus €300 registration or takeover per country. Predictable; check the transaction cap on the entry plan.
- Subscription tiers, self-serve. Lovat €35 to €450 a month; Quaderno $29 to $149; Kintsugi free to $75 per US filing. Cheapest on paper — you supply the labour and carry the liability.
- Per service, itemised. Taxually’s EcoTax from €150 to register and €150 to €1,800 a year to report; OneTax €5 per payment. Useful when you only need one module.
- Quote only. Avalara, Sovos, Marosa, Fonoa, Taxually’s VAT product and AVASK’s tiers. Ask for the whole stack in one quote — registrations, returns, OSS/IOSS, fiscal representation, EPR, customs, corrections, correspondence — with the minimum term and takeover fee written down.
Compare cost per obligation covered, not price per month.
A €49-per-country plan that leaves out IOSS, EPR and customs is not cheaper than a managed platform that includes them, once you add the second and third provider and the hours spent making them talk to each other. Whatever you choose, insist on a “prices checked” date — ours is at the top of this article — and on knowing what the price does when you add a country.

Frequently asked questions
Which VAT compliance software is highly rated?
On G2’s Sales Tax and VAT Compliance category (4,200+ verified reviews, average 4.53, September 2026) the top-rated tools relevant to cross-border sellers are Lovat’s Lappa (4.9 from 128 reviews) and Kintsugi (4.6 from 53); Avalara scores 4.0 from 813. Managed specialists such as hellotax, Taxually and AVASK have few G2 reviews — ratings favour SaaS over accountant-led platforms.
What is the best software for filing VAT?
UK-only business: HMRC-recognised accounting or bridging software from HMRC’s list. Obligations in several countries: a managed compliance platform — Infiniti3, Marosa, hellotax or Taxually — that registers, files and keeps evidence everywhere, rather than a calculation engine or a tool you still have to submit from.
Do I need VAT compliance software or an accountant?
Both, ideally in one place. Cross-border VAT is a workflow (data, calculation, validation, filing, evidence) that software runs well, and a liability (registrations, signatures, letters, corrections) that a qualified adviser owns. Managed platforms combine the two; buy software alone and budget for the adviser — see outsourced VAT compliance.
Does VAT compliance software file my UK VAT return under Making Tax Digital?
Only if the vendor is HMRC-recognised or submits through HMRC’s API for you. Avalara VAT Reporting and Fonoa Returns are on HMRC’s list; Infiniti3 submits through a direct API connection with HMRC; Taxually files through your Government Gateway authorisation; Lovat calls itself MTD-ready; several vendors do not publish their status. Ask outright — a non-UK seller with UK stock is inside MTD from the first return.
How much does VAT compliance software cost?
Published managed pricing runs per country per month — hellotax €49 or €119 per country, €470 for five, plus €300 registration or takeover. Self-serve SaaS runs €35–€450 a month (Lovat), $29–$149 (Quaderno) or $75 per US filing (Kintsugi). Avalara, Sovos, Marosa, Fonoa, Taxually’s VAT product and AVASK’s tiers are quoted on your countries and services. Prices as published 22 September 2026, excluding VAT.
What replaced VAT Services on Amazon?
Nothing inside Amazon. The programme ended on 31 October 2024; sellers now contract directly with a provider such as AVASK, hellotax, Taxually or Marosa. Programme documents were downloadable in Seller Central until 31 August 2025 — if you never exported them, ask your former provider.
Can one provider handle UK and EU VAT plus EPR?
Yes, but few do. Here, Infiniti3 (AVASK), Taxually, Marosa and Lovat offer EPR alongside VAT; Infiniti3 and SimplyVAT add customs clearance. Avalara, Sovos, hellotax, Fonoa, Quaderno and Kintsugi do not publish an EPR service, so you would need a second provider for EPR registration.
Do US sellers need fiscal representation in the UK or EU?
Not in the UK — a US business registers directly as a non-established taxable person. In the EU it depends on the country: France, Italy, Spain and Poland among others require a jointly liable fiscal representative for non-EU businesses. hellotax covers four countries; AVASK acts as fiscal representative primarily in the Netherlands, Ireland, Germany, France and Spain; Avalara, Taxually, Marosa and Sovos also offer it.
Does OSS remove the need for local VAT registrations?
No. OSS covers cross-border B2C sales of goods moving between EU countries. Stock held in a country still needs a local registration there, as do domestic sales from that stock — which is why Pan-EU FBA sellers file OSS plus six or seven local returns. Excluded from OSS? Local returns are the fallback.
What is the best tax compliance software for a business with US sales tax and EU VAT?
Avalara and Sovos cover both at enterprise scale; Kintsugi and Lovat cover both as SaaS (US-first and EU-first); AVASK handles both — EU and UK VAT through Infiniti3 and US sales tax as a managed service that moves into the platform by the end of Q4 2026. What decides it is who files the EU side and whether EPR and customs are included.
What are the top SaaS tools for global VAT compliance?
Lovat (Lappa) for marketplace sellers, Quaderno for digital products, Kintsugi for US brands adding Europe, and Fonoa or Avalara AvaTax as engines for platforms with engineering teams. If you hold stock in several countries, a managed platform is usually the better answer — SaaS leaves registrations, fiscal representation and the letters with you.
