Good news for Amazon sellers: the marketplace has recently announced that you can prove your compliance with the EU Batteries Regulation requirements for Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) directly when you log in to your seller Account Health page.

The 2023 law focuses on enhancing the sustainability and safety of batteries. It makes producers responsible for their take-back, recycling, and final disposal. We outline what it means for sellers and how to remain compliant in more detail.
What do you need to do if you sell batteries in the EU?
The deadline to provide a registration number for your batteries or products containing batteries is Monday 18 August, 2025. Amazon must deactivate any non-compliant offers after this date (unless they can comply on your behalf, depending on the country).
What happens if you don’t submit a valid registration number?
Amazon will deactivate your non-compliant offers in Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, and Sweden starting from 18 August 2025.
How to comply with EPR requirements if you’re a producer
Amazon has sent out guidance, but as a recap:
- Register with the local authority in Germany, Sweden, and Poland, or for the Netherlands, through a Producer Responsibility Organisation (PRO)
- Submit your batteries registration numbers via the Account Health page. You should see the validation status of your registration number on the Account Health page within a few business days.
- Report your annual battery sales and pay eco-contribution fees to the relevant EU authorities or PROs starting August 2025.
Questions about proving your compliance
Are you selling batteries in Italy, Spain, and Belgium?
The authorities haven’t yet confirmed if you’ll need to register on your own, or if you can use Amazon’s Pay on Behalf service for non-compliant offers (marketplace fees will apply).
Are you selling batteries in France?
In France, you can enrol in Amazon’s Pay on Behalf service, or look into independent EPR registration. Check out the Extended Producer Responsibility requirements: France for guidance.
Are you already registered and not intending to use Amazon Pay on Behalf?
If you’ve registered with the authorities or an approved PRO in Italy, Spain, and Belgium, and don’t plan to use Amazon Pay on Behalf, then you need to submit your registration numbers via the Account Health page.
Not a producer?
Get the registration numbers from your suppliers. Follow Amazon’s steps to submit your batteries registration numbers, then start reporting your annual battery sales and paying the eco-contribution fees.
When submitting your registration numbers, confirm you’re not the producer.
