Amazon have recently highlighted that German small and medium-sized enterprises have seen export sales rise by 10% in 2023. This year-on-year growth, amounting to €5.5 billion, have set a new high bar.
The figures come from Amazon’s own SME Report 2023 for Germany. It shows that seller numbers have remained the same (around 47,000) – and they’ve created jobs to help support the running of their businesses. Previously, there were 160,000 employees; it’s now grown to 170,000.

How has this become possible?
Amazon sellers can achieve this by using the tools and innovations at hand – such as logistics Pan-European Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) or the European Fulfilment Network (EFN), translation, and content tools powered by AI. The millions of items sold during peak events such as Prime Day also helped with this uplift, so it’s essential to be prepared for these.
And it’s not just German-based businesses selling on the Amazon.de platform either – Markus Schöberl, Director Seller Services, Amazon Germany noted that German businesses based around the world have the easiest possible start with Amazon.
What does Germany’s e-commerce growth mean for sellers?
This means that now’s a good time to set your sights on European or global expansion! The German market is clearly growing, so it’s worth looking into setting up shop there if you haven’t already. If you’re established in Germany, think about whether you’re making the most of Amazon’s existing sellers toolset – and how you can grow your business and sell across borders.
