What is GPSR?
The GPSR is a new regulation established by the European Commission, providing a fundamental legal framework to ensure product safety in the European Union market.
This regulation will replace the existing General Product Safety Directive and the Food Imitating Products Directive, coming into effect on December 13, 2024.
Officially known as Regulation (EU) 2023/988, it applies to all offline and online non-food products.
Non-compliance with the GPSR can result in serious consequences for exporters, including fines, product bans, and damage to their reputation.
EU Responsible Person Requirement
Sellers must appoint a “responsible person” within the EU who will be the contact point for product compliance and safety issues. This person ensures that products sold in the market comply with all relevant safety standards.
The responsible person must have access to the technical documentation and may need to collaborate with local authorities in case of product recalls or safety concerns.
Amazon Marketplace Compliance
The GPSR regulation creates the essential legal framework for ensuring product safety in the European Union market. The main requirements are as follows:
- Contact Information: Provide the contact details of the product manufacturer and the responsible person.
- Security Documentation: Include PDF manuals, instructions, and user guides, which can be attached to the listing in Seller Central.
- Images with Warnings: Upload images that display safety warnings on the product or its packaging using the Image Manager in Seller Central.
- Safety Certification: Certain products require a certificate of conformity to demonstrate that they comply with EU safety standards. This certificate must be uploaded to Seller Central.
